A sentence of two weeks’ imprisonment and a fine of 250 zlotys was imposed by the district court on the editor of the anti-Semitic daily, “Gazeta Warszawska”, who was sued by the former Minister and present member of the Government Club, Boguslaw Miedzinski.
The trial arose in connection with the anti-Semitic excesses which were organized last November in the Universities of Warsaw and elsewhere by the anti-Semitic youth of the National Democratic Party.
The anti-Semitic activities of the students were condemned at the time in the Sejm by the Minister of the Interior, M. Pierozki, and also by Deputy Miedzinski. The “Gazeta Warszawska” thereupon attacked the Deputy, using insulting expressions against him. The Counsel for the editor of the “Gazeta Warszawska” tried to influence the court by the argument that anti-Semitic excesses occur not only in Polish Universities, but also in Universities abroad, and that the Government condemned the excesses merely because it needs the support of the Jewish members of the Sejm. The court, however, found the editor guilty and passed the sentence.
