Anti-semitism “false Issue” in Campaign, Says Anti-defamation League

Anti-Semitism as an issue in the current presidential campaign is “wholly false” since presidential candidates of “the recognized political parties” are completely free of “any religious or racial prejudice”, it was declared today by the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith.

In a statement signed by Sigmund Livingston, chairman, the League asserted that injection of such an issue in a political campaign “would imply a special interest on the part of Jewish citizens” who “are not and never have been an organized political group in America.”

The statement continued: “They affiliate according to their individual convictions, with the various political parties, and the right of franchise is exercised by them free from any considerations of class or group distinction. This is true notwithstanding representations of zealous political advocates to the contrary.

“The raising of such an issue is particularly unjustified in the pending campaign, because of the unquestioned record of tolerance, in accord with the finest traditions of our nation, of the Presidential candidates of the recognized political parties and their complete freedom from any religious or racial prejudice.”
