The Arab League and the newly formed Palestine Arab Higher Committee are split as to their attitude towards the Anglo-American inquiry commission on Palestine, it was learned here today. The Committee favors boycotting the commission, while the League, from all accounts, is opposed to the statement of policy by Foreign Minister Ernest Bevin, but does not believe it advisable to ignore the commission.
Several members of the higher committee arrived here over the week-end to participate as advisers in the League’s discussion of the Palestine problem. It was announced today that the League’s reply to the Bevin statement will be made public in the capitals of all the Arab nations, and in London and Washington, on Wednesday.
It is expected that it will stress that the inquiry commission’s findings will not be binding on the Arabs, demand representation on the commission, and oppose further Jewish immigration into Palestine and the linking of the Palestine problem with the plight of the Jewish refugees in Europe.
