An anti-Israel resolution was pushed through the Conference of African States, at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, through a maneuver by the United Arab Republic delegate there, according to information received here today.
The UAR representative had lost a move in the conference steering committee, which vetoed a proposal that the plenary session adopt a resolution denouncing Israel. However, in the final hours of the plenary session, the Egyptian, according to information here, threatened to vote against one of the principal resolutions before the Conference, a condemnation of the policy of apartheid in the Union of South Africa. Since the conference was anxious for unanimity on that score, it adopted the UAR amendment, which placed the Arab-Israel dispute in an African context.
As it finally emerged from the plenary session, the resolution advanced by the UAR delegate expressed “concern” over “disregard of United Nations resolutions,” ” holding that such “disregard threatens peace in Northeast Africa.”
