While the Sixth anniversary of the Balfour Declaration was quietly celebrated by the Jews of Palestine, a general strike called by the Arab leaders to protest the carrying out of the Declaration.

Aware of the Arabs’ intention to strike, police authorities in the various towns took necessary precautions. Armored cars were used in Jaffa and in other towns to impress the people with the Government’s determination to suppress disorders.

The day passed uneventfully, in spite of the additional uneasiness caused by the fact that yesterday large numbers of Arabs from the rural districts poured into the towns for the usual Friday prayers in the Mosques.
