The Argentine Supreme Court has just handed down a ruling which is expected to facilitate the process of achieving citizenship status by Jewish immigrants in this country who originally came from Eastern European countries.

Until now, the courts have required a birth certificate before naturalization papers were released. But in this decision, the court held that it is sometimes impossible to obtain such documents from Eastern European countries or from Soviet-occupied areas in Germany and Austria, and that exceptions will be made for would-be citizens from such countries who have two witnesses prepared to attest to their identity.
