The Baltimore Jewish Council, in a letter addressed to the president of every Jewish organization in the city, condemned rumors of anti-Semitism and anti-Catholicism circulated against some of the candidates in the primaries being held June 28.
The letter called on Christians and Jews both to vote as individuals and not as religious groups and according to their judgment as American citizens.
It declared that “any attempt to influence voters by religious considerations, whether initiated by individuals or by sectarian organizations, is highly improper. ” It added that “to attribute religious prejudice falsely to any candidate is not merely improper; it is to be condemned. “
