Satisfaction was expressed in diplomatic and Jewish circles here today with the suggestion advanced yesterday by foreign secretary lord Halifax to Reichsfuehrer Adolf Hitler that Germany could prove its desire to improve Anglo-German relations by cooperating in a solution of the refugee problem. Lord Halifax, it was revealed, made the suggestion to Hitler’s personal envoy, Capt. Fritz Wiedemann, before leaving for Paris to attend the reception to King George and queen Elizabeth.
The Foreign Secretary, replying to a personal message brought by Capt. Wiedemann from Hitler which expressed a desire for better relations between the two governments, referred to the refugee problem and pointed out that the arrangement reached at the recent Evian conference could be made more practical if Germany did its share.
