The Board of Deputies of British Jews decided unanimously yesterday to seek coordination of all fund-raising drives in England for the Jews of Poland and Eastern Europe in a single campaign under its own auspices.
A resolution introduced by Neville Laski–who was re-elected president of the board–said:
“This board, in view of the situation of the Jews in Poland and Eastern Europe, authorizes the launching of an appeal under its auspices and empowers its officers and the Foreign Appeals Committee of the board to take all necessary action, such as the consolidation of appeals in behalf of Polish and East European Jewries into one organization, a unification which the board regards as essential to the interests both of the community and of those whom it is desired to help.”
Mr. Laski declared that the community was bewildered by the large number of appeals made in behalf of the Polish and other distressed Jewries.
The urgent need for relief of program-stricken Jews of Brzese, Poland, he asserted, only brought to a head the determination of responsible elements to “end this overlapping and confusion.”
The board also approved a plan for reorganization of the Joint Foreign Committee, comprising the board and the Anglo-Jewish Association, and approved by the association on May 23.
Besides Mr. Laski, officers re-elected are Sir Robert Waley Cohen and Lionel L. Cohen, vice-presidents.
