The absence of representatives of the British military authorities aroused bitter comments today at a ceremony here marking the unveiling of a memorial to Jewish prisoners of concentration camps buried in the nearby woods.
Representatives of the Belsen Jewish central committee and anti-Fascist organizations spoke at the ceremony while two youthful Jews wearing concentration camp clothing and holding burning candles flanked the memorial as a guard of honor. German municipal authorities sent representatives.
The Jewish victims were part of a group of concentration camp inmates on their way to Belsen from another camp a few days before the liberation. When Allied planes attacked their train, some of the prisoners escaped, only to be shot down by SS troopers.
