The annual conference of the British Zionist Federation today appealed to the British Government to cooperate with other governments to safeguard the religious and racial minority rights of Austrian and other Jewish communities. A resolution adopted at the closing session also called on the Government to facilitate establishment of a Jewish national home in Palestine . The conference announced opposition to any policy not providing for adequate immigration and imposing a minority status on the Jews in Palestine.

Welcoming the possible inclusion of the proposed Palestine Jewish State in the British Empire, the British Zionists demanded that the Palestine Jews be armed for self-defence and that the absorptive capacity standard of immigration be restored.

The 400 delegates last night heard an appeal for Zionist unity before the Palestine Partition Commission and for resistance to assimilation of Jews. The Rev. J.K. Goldbloom, chairman of the federation’s executive committee, who presided, declared “we sincerely trust that it (the commission) will realize that a solution must envisage a firm and rapid policy compatible with the solemn pledges to the Jewish people.”

“Whatever the outcome of the inquiry, we appeal from this conference to the Government to open wide the gates of Palestine,” the chairman said. “As loyal British citizens we have always urged our collaborators abroad to trust Britain, and hope they will not be disappointed.”
