Opposition to the building of a second synagogue in the suburban township of York was expressed today by the township’s council. York township has only one synagogue for a Jewish population of 3,500.
The opposition is based on the argument that “while the Jewish citizens form four percent of the township’s population, they hold 20 percent of the tax-exempt property for religious purposes.”
