Charges that British and Arab agents in the Middle East are fomenting incidents which will reach a climax in September, and will threaten American Lives in an attempt to discourage the United States from pursuing an independent policy in regard to Palestine, have been lodged with Senator Elbert Thomas, chairman of the Senate Military Affairs Committee, by Louis Bromfield, co-chairman of the American League for a Free Palestine.
Enumerating seven specific points, Mr. Bromfield, on behalf of the executive committee of the American League, revealed that American arms and ammunition are en route to Beirut to be diverted to Arab raiders who are being incited by “agents provocateurs.” In order to “forestall further damage to American property and possible loss of American lives,” the American League advocated strict surveillance of military shipments to the Near and Middle East, alerting of all U.S. intelligence officers in that area, a close check on Arab League activities in the United States, and requesting the British Government to disassociate itself from these activities and to curb its agents and their henchmen.
