A cool, formal atmosphere prevailed today when Nicholas Cioroiu, Rumania’s first Minister to Israel, presented his credentials to Acting President Josef Sprinzak.
In a short speech, the Rumanian envoy said that his mission would consist of furthering the “excellent relations” which exist between the two nations and that he is sure he can count on a similar attitude on the part of Israel. In a very few words, Mr. Sprinzak also referred to the cordial relations between the two states and told the Rumanian that when he toured this country he would realize the importance of the contribution of Rumanian Jewry to Israel. He also expressed the hope that Rumanian Jews will continue to extend aid to the Jewish state.
It is expected here that the Rumanian Minister will soon submit to Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett a reply from Rumanian Foreign Minister Anna Pauker to his plea that the Rumanian Government lift its ban on the emigration of Israel-bound Jews.
