A Czech administrator of a former German tombstone company in the city of Marienbad has been found guilty by a county court of removing from the local Jewish cemetery, after the war, several tombstones which had been assigned to the original owner of the business by the Germans during the occupation.
Frantisek Pojer, the defendant, was named administrator after the liberation, of the stone-cutting establishment of a German named Linger, when Linger was deported to Germany. In September, 1945, Pojer, without consulting the authorities, proceeded to remove from the local Jewish cemetery several monuments which had been sold by ?e German occupation officials to Linger, but which Linger had not had time to remove before the Red Army overran Czechoslovakia. Pojer was ordered to make full indemnification to the Jewish community and was sentenced to one year in prison.
