Reports of disturbances and programs in parts of Russia in consequence of the execution of Vicar General Butchkevitch in Moscow, are characterized as “malicious invention” and “provocation” in cable advices from Kiev and Moscow received at the office here of the All-Russian Jewish Public Committee, commonly known as “Yidgescom”. The Committee here had inquired, it states, as to the authenticity of the reports and was informed they were utterly unfounded.
“We have investigated the rumors and are able to state the reports of uprisings and pogroms are malicious inventions”, reads a cable from the Committee’s office in Kiev. The Moscow advice from the same source states merely “the reports are nothing but provocation”.
No other denials have been forthcoming of the reports current the last fortnight of uprisings in Znitcmir and elsewhere in the Ukraine. All attempts by the JEWISH TELEGRAPHIC AGENCY to verify the reports have elicited no reply from its Russian correspondent, doubtlessly on account of the rigid censorship in force in Moscow.
