Government action to bring to account the editor of the Polish newspaper “Echo” in Lublin, for spreading the libelous accusation of the ritual murder tale against Jews was asked in an interpellation introduced in parliament by Deputy Isaac Gruenbaum, president of the Club of Jewish Deputies.

In a recent issue the paper asserted that “rabbis paint Christian houses with blood in order that they will be favorably disposed toward Jews. During the marriage ceremony,” the paper wrote, “the rabbis hand the bride a bloodfilled egg as a protection against bad luck. The rabbis write letters in blood for Jewish merchants in order to improve trade. All in all, the annual consumption of blood is thirty litres, all of which is taken from Christian children,” was the ridiculous, perfidous and stupid charge of the paper.
