The services rendered the State of Israel by Dewey D. Stone and Harry Levine were extolled by Premier Golda Meir last night at a dinner at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovoth honoring the two Americans on the occasion of their birthdays. Mr. Stone, 70, is chairman of the Board of Governors of the Weizmann Institute, and Mr. Levine, 75, is a founding governor and treasurer of the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute in New York. Finance Minister Pinhas Sapir presided at the birthday dinner which was attended by Mrs. Meir; Foreign Minister Abba Eban; United States Ambassador Walworth Barbour; Dr. Albert Sabin, the Institute’s president; Meyer E. Weisgal, Chancellor; Dr. Israel Goldstein, head of the Keren Hayesod, and senior scientific and administrative staff members of the Weizmann Institute.
“I can think of no two other American Jews who have done for the State of Israel–before and after its establishment–what Dewey Stone and Harry Levine did and are still doing,” Premier Meir said. “The full extent of Stone’s and Levine’s efforts on behalf of this country cannot yet be told, but one day, when the annals of the Zionist movement and the creation of the State are written in full, this remarkable role of the two will be made public,” she said. “Until then, it is enough to say that they have been active partners all along the way, however difficult and rocky that way has been,” she said. Mr. Stone and Mr. Levine will be honored in New York on Dec. 16 at a dinner under the auspices of the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute.
