In the debate between Bertrand Russell, noted English philosopher and Professor Durant on the question: “Is Democracy a Failure” which took place at Boston Symphony Hall, the Dreyfus case was brought up for discussion by both eminent thinkers.
Dr. Russell declared that it was in democratic France that the injustice was righted and would have been impossible if it was not for the democracy that prevailed in France, while Professor Durant insisted that the “Socialist party and the intellectuals,” and not the people of France brought about the vindication of the Dreyfus case.
