The Dutch Auschwitz Committee sent a letter today to the West German Justice Ministry protesting that many of the sentences imposed last week in a trial of Sobibor death camp personnel were too light.
Twelve of the personnel were tried in Hagen. One was given life imprisonment, six received terms of three to eight years, one defendant hanged himself before trial, and the others were acquitted on grounds of lack of evidence in judgments handed down on December 20. At least 150,000 Jewish inmates were murdered in Sobibor in occupied Poland.
