For the first time since it began operations, El Al, Israel’s national airlines, announced today that it was operating at a profit.
A profit of 60,000 Israel pounds was chalked up in the last six months, the company said. This compares to a loss of over 1,000,000 pounds for the year before. Gross revenues were up by 2,400,000 pounds for the last six months while expenditures rose only 200,000 pounds. El Al planes carried 25,000 passengers in this period against 19,000 last year.
