Eleven new settlements were established during the Jewish year just ending, it was noted today by Dr. Raanan Weitz, director of the Jewish Agency’s Settlement Department. Eight of them are located in the occupied Arab territories and three within the “green line” dividing Israel proper and the Jordanian West Bank. Nine of them are still awaiting their first residents, who are expected in the coming year. Two of the 11 new villages were set aside for 100 immigrants from France, and two others are being planned for Americans. Since the Six-Day War, 40 settlements have been established.
