Ernest Bloch, noted composer of Jewish music, lately famed for his prize-winning symphony, “America”, is to turn his creative art next to composing the music for a Jewish Sabbath morning service.
He has consented to take up that work at the insistence of Cantor Reuben R. Rinder of Temple Emanu-El, who is president of the Society for the Advancement of Synagogue Music, an international organization.
So seriously has the noted writer of music taken up his latest assignment that he has begun to study Hebrew and in three weeks has mastered enough to enable him to translate prayers into English. He is also considering a trip to the Orient to obtain the proper background and artistic inspiration for his compositions.
