Two Israeli soldiers were lightly wounded in the Gaza Strip this week when an explosive device went off as they were on their way to their post near the Kissufim crossing.
Datya Hershkowitz, spokesperson for the Gaza Settler’s Council, said the incident was not the first at that particular army post, which has soldiers posted there only during the day.
“The soldiers come in the morning around 6:30 and are there until the evening,” she told Israel Radio. “This is already the third or fourth incident that when the soldiers come the morning, somebody had prepared an explosive during the night.
The incident came a day after Palestinian security agents blocked a bus full of Jewish schoolchildren at the Netzarim junction, and tried to force their way on board. No one was injured in the incident.
Mohammed Dahlan, the head of the Palestinian security service, was reportedly among the Palestinians who shouted curses and brandished their weapons at the Israeli soldiers escorting the bus.
According to local media reports, the bus and its military escort, traveling from Gush Katif to Netzarim, had not let the Palestinians pass them on the road.
The Palestinians later overtook the convoy, and then blocked it at the Netzarim Junction. A joint Palestinian-Israeli patrol arrived at the scene, and the bus was allowed to continue.
The Israel Defense Force has submitted a formal complaint to the joint Israeli- Palestinian Supreme Liaison Committee about the incident.
