German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder pledged that his government would do all it can to halt the recent upsurge in violence against immigrants in Germany. Schroeder made his remarks Sept. 7 at a meeting of the Appeal of Conscience Foundation in New York, where he received the group’s World Statesman Award.
