“We are ready to take up the fight against the new limitations which the British government has announced with regard to our upbuilding work in Palestine” German Zionist leaders announced here today at an extraordinary session held at the central office of the German Zionist Federation.
Every group in the Zionist movement in Germany was represented at this emergency meeting. In a spirit of unity it was decided that the Jewish upbuilding work in Palestine should be continued in the face of the new obstacles. It was also agreed that it was necessary to strengthen the practical political activities of the Zionist movement.
A telegram expressing sympathy with the Jews in Palestine in this hour of crisis was sent to the Jewish National Council by the session. The telegram declared that the Zionists of Germany will not give up working for the cause of Palestine.
Kurt Blumenfeld, president of the German Zionist Federation, in a statement to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency today said, “The British bureaucracy has been fighting the idea of establishing a Jewish National Home in Palestine from the very first day when the Mandate was granted by the League of Nations to Great Britain.
“The new White Paper”, Herr Blumenfeld continued, “is an act of revenge on the part of the British government for the criticism which the Zionist leaders have been levelling against the British policy in Palestine for several years. It is also a victory for the reactionary officials of Great Britain against the present Labor government. The Zionist Organization, however, will fight with all means possible against the White Paper.
“Millions of Jews will organize a political resistance by doubling their energy for Palestine, just as Lord Rothschild did when establishing a Jewish Yishub in Palestine under the unfriendly attitude of the Turkish government.”
