Gov. John S. Fine of Pennsylvania, who returned recently from a visit to Israel, told a United Jewish Appeal dinner here that “we cannot afford to see Israel go down any more than any Christian can afford to see Communism violate and dominate the ancient and venerated seats of Christianity.”
“We need more democracies like Israel,” said Gov. Fine, “America needs more friends among the nations,” He characterized Israel as a “present day frontier of our democracy” and said that “in Israel there is a strong bridgehead of a pattern compatible with the American venture. “
