Intensive efforts will be put forth in the final days of the Hadassah summer campaign for $120,000 which closes on Sept. 30, according to reports from the 271 chapters in the country, a statement from the Hadassah headquarters declares.
After complete reports are received, the winner of the contest for the largest subscriptions raised will receive a Chrysier automobile, an offer of Mrs. Charles Werbelowsky, of Brooklyn. The essential condition of the contest is that Hadassah raise the full $120,000.
This amount represents three monthly commitments to Palestine for the Hadassah Medical Organization, which conducts medical and health welfare work in Palestine.
The chapters heading the list of contributions so far are: New York, $4,215; Chicago, $4,000; Brooklyn, $3,628; Detroit, $3,010; Boston, $2,505; Far Rockaway, $2,200; Louisville, Ky., $1,425; Worcester, Mass., $1,125; St. Paul, Minn., $1,000.
The first Administrative Committee meeting of the American Jewish Congress since the return of the delegates to the Zurich Conference was held at the headquarters of the Congress Wednesday night.
Dr. Wise and some of his associate delegates reported on the Conference and the meeting occupied itself chiefly with the program for the Executive Committee meeting of the American Jewish Congress to be held Sunday afternoon. October 2nd, at the Astor Hotel.
At that meeting addresses will be made by the American Delegates, including Dr. Wise, Max D. Steuer, Judge Gustave Hartman. Dr. Joseph Tenenbaum and others and there will be a full discussion of the newly created Council on the Rights of Jewish Minorities, which grew out of the Zurich Conference.
The Executive Secretary of the American Jewish Congress, Bernard G. Richards, together with Marvin Low-enthal, the European representative of the Congress. Dr. Leo Motzkin of Paris and Dr. Emil Margolis of Prague are now engaged in creating the Geneva headquarters of the Council. It was announced at the meeting.
The Chicago Daily News Radio Station WMAQ, is Installing a microphone in the synagogue of the Congregation Anshe Emes, Chicago, for the purpose of broadcasting the principal portions of the services of the High Holy Days.
This is the first time in Chicago that the Orthodox services of the High Holy Days are being broadcast directly from the Synagogue.
A new large Orthodox synagogue in the United States is planned for Philadelphia.
Plans were formulated at a meeting held in the Academy of Music. More than 5,000 persons attended.
On a motion made by Joseph Gross, the new congregation was tentatively organized under the name, B’nai Joseph. Louis Schaeffer was elected president and Max Roomin, secretary, of the new organization.
