Forty Jewish bakeries were closed in the city of Brest-Litovsk by an order by the health department of the municipality.

The closed bakeries were operated by old-fashioned methods. The introduction of new mixing machines and ovens is now being planned. The Jewish bakers, impoverished and unable to make the investment required for installation of new equipment, will be driven out of the trade.
