Charging that the Jewish Agency is “an obsolete body dominated by Englishmen like Weizmann, Brodetsky and others” which “in no way represents the Hebrew people,” Peter Bergson, chairman of the Hebrew Committee of National Liberation, today said that “should it persist in its present course, it will be vigorously repudiated” by the Jews of Palestine.
Bergson spoke at a joint press conference with Rep. Andrew Somers and Ben Hecht. Commenting on the recent representations to the State Department by the British Government concerning the raising of funds here for so-called “illegal” immigration into Palestine, Hecht said his group would trouble their efforts to secure funds to bring Jews into Palestine by all possible means.
