A hope of thirty years will be realized Wednesday, when ground will be broken for a new Workmen’s Circle Labor Lyceum at Carroll street and Twelfth avenue. The building will be two stories high.
Joseph Weinberg, president of the Workmen’s Circle, will attend the ground-breaking ceremonies in behalf of the national organization, and B. Charney Vladek will attend in behalf of the Jewish Daily Forward. Organizations participating in the project are: the Central Trades and Labor Council of Passaic County, the American Federation of Silk Workers, the Socialist Party, the Poale Zion, the Purity Co-operative Association and ten branches of the Workmen’s Circle, including the city and district committee.
With the ceremonies Wednesday a drive for $6,000 will be inaugurated by the committees. The money will be used to defray the cost of construction.
The building will contain rooms for meetings, an auditorium and social, recreational and educational facilities. It was designed by Elliott R. Coe.
