“Alien control and influence in national affairs,” is one of the objects which the Blue Shirts of Ireland are bound by their constitution to oppose, reports the London Daily Herald in an interview with General O’Duffy, Commander of the National Guard, the blueshirted organization which President de Valera is contemplating outlawing.
General O’Duffy was asked to give a definition of the organization’s attitude towards the Jews and referred to the second rule in the organization’s constitution which is as follows:
“To oppose Communism and alien control and influence in national affairs, and to uphold Christian principles in every sphere of public activity.”
Only Irish-born Christians are eligible to membership in the organization which is directed against Jews, General O’Duffy admitted, because “the Jews are the instigators of Communism.”
When the occasion arises, he declared, the guards will demand arms for defense. The organization has been declared illegal by the Northern Ireland Government.
“We are an anti-Communist organization,” O’Duffy asserted. “We have adopted the Fascist salute, not because it is Fascist, but because it it distinctive and has removed us from the British Army salute.”
