Israel Advised Not to Expect More Than $40,000,000 in U.S. Aid

Israel Ambassador Abba Eban discussed the American economic aid program for Israel this week-end with Harold E. Stassen, head of the Foreign Operations Administration. It is understood that Mr. Stassen told the Israel Ambassador to advise his government not to count on any total exceeding $40,000,000 for the current fiscal year.

President Eisenhower announced this week-end that he will nominate Henry A, Byroade, who is now Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, as Ambassador to Egypt. George V. Allen, now Ambassador to India, will replace Mr. Byroade as Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs. The nominations are subject to Senate confirmation. The announcement has been expected for several months.
