The Israel Government has agreed to open negotiations with the Soviet Government on the legal status of Russian property in Israel dating back to Czarist times, the Israel Foreign Ministry announced today.
The property is owned by the Russian Orthodox Palestinian Society and a considerable portion of it is in Jerusalem and in Jaffa. The decision to negotiate with the Soviets was approved by the Israel Cabinet last month and an exchange of notes followed between the two Governments.
The Israeli delegation to the talks will be headed by Haim Kadmon. Custodian General, and will include Zeev Argaman of the Foreign Ministry, who has been a counselor in Israel Embassies in Moscow and Washington. The Soviet delegation will include two Foreign Ministry officials and officials of the Soviet Embassy, in Israel.
