Israel braced for the possible arrival of a bird flu that has reached Turkey and Romania. The Health Ministry said Sunday it had ordered 200 hospital beds set aside for senior citizens who are expected to be the first victims of the virus in Israel, and asked the government for $22 million in emergency funding.
