General Yigal Allon, Israel’s Minister of Labor, said here today that Israel’s rapid industrialization was creating a major need for professional and technically trained people from the United States.
Speaking at the second annual meeting of the Committee on Manpower Opportunities in Israel, Gen. Allon said many lands were grateful to Americans “for their personal service to their countries, particularly where Americans contribute to less-developed segments of industry. ” He told the 50 members and guests that Israel needed such Americans to serve in Israeli industry.
Gen. Allon, who is chairman of the Israel Government-Jewish Agency Coordinating Committee on Manpower, also said that Israel was not only accepting help from the United States but was also active in utilizing its own technical manpower to aid the developing countries of Africa.
Professor Moshe Davis, co-chairman of the American committee, told the meeting he had visited families recruited by the committee and found they were functioning well in Israel, The families were settled and were becoming part of Israel’s daily life, he said.
Robert H. Arnow, chairman of the American committee, said that, in the past six months, 30 job contracts for work in Israel were signed by Americans and seven families had left for Israel.
