Eliahu Epstein, special Israeli representative to Washington, this week-end urged the United States to lift the embargo against Israeli and to give material assistance to Israel by loans for reconstruction and resettlement of immigrants.
Epstein, who spoke at a press conference, also urged the U.S. to keep the embargo against the Arabs in effect, and to take the leadership in the United Nations action against them. He said that “America was the first to recognize Israel and as a result of American leadership, and other states, Israel was established.”
He urged the U.N. to put an end to the war in Palestine and to “stamp the Arabs as aggressors.” He stated that the “open aggression” in Palestine gives the U.N. sufficient grounds for sanctions against the Arabs. “The seven Arab states,” he said, “with the help of England, were unable to conquer us before the truce and they will surely be unable to do this against the U.N. So long as the Arabs see a vacillating U.N. policy or see the possibility of a change in U.N. policy, they will continue to fight.”
