Thousands of Sephardi Jews crowded into the Gave of Elijah on the slopes of Mount Carmel near here yesterday for their annual pilgrimage to the site, traditionally observed on the first Sunday after Tisha B’Av. A procession of Sephardi men, several of them carrying Torah scrolls, paraded from Haifa to the cave, where prayers for the welfare of the State were recited and where each worshiper filed into the cave to pray and appeal for cures to various illnesses.
