Italian Jewish women were warned today by a Jewish physician, Dr. Emmanuel Weyss-Levi, against using lipstick unless it is especially manufactured with kosher ingredients.
In an article in Israel, the weekly publication of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities, Dr. Weyss-Levi claims he has discovered that most lipstick contains the powder of an insect. “Since part of this cosmetic is often involuntarily swallowed by its users, and often by men too,” states the physician, “it is not kosher, like pork.” He called upon Jewish lipstick manufacturers to produce kosher cosmetics.
