American-born sculptor Jacob Epstein has snubbed the Royal Academy just as that stronghold of conservatism in art snubbed him years ago, Reuters reported here today. The 70-year-old artist explained why he has turned down an academy invitation to submit his work to the academy’s summer show.
“The Royal Academy has opposed me all my life and attacked my work. That is the reason why I did not send my work to the exhibition. Now, at the end of my life, they come and beg me to come to the Royal Academy–and that speaks for itself,” the sculptor said.
