High praise for the work of the Hebrew University in Palestine is paid by Captain James Roosevelt, son of the President, in a letter addressed to Edward M. M. Warburg, as a result of the visit which the President’s son paid to the University during his recent stay in Palestine.
“I am delighted to tell you that my visit to the Hebrew University in Jerusalem was one of the most interesting and inspiring features of my trip,” Captain Roosevelt writes. “Dr. Magnes has a group of scholars and has created an atmosphere whose contribution to intellectual development cannot be overestimated. Having been there, I can appreciate the courage and fortitude they are showing in carrying on their work under most disturbing conditions.
“It is a spirit closely akin to that of the American Pioneers and there could be no greater or prouder way of planting our flag for the encouragement of freedom of thought and learning. I hope that you, as Chairman of the Executive Committee, and all of the friends of the Hebrew University will continue to give your solid support to Dr. Magnes, as a soldier truly in the front lines, and to his University.”
