The Israel Mission to the United Nations made public today a letter received by Ambassador Yosef Tekoah from Kiichi Aichi, Japan’s Ambassador to the UN, expressing “sincere gratitude for the support that you, personally, and your delegation granted to us during the recent debate and voting on the question of the representation of China in the United Nations.”
Aichi was referring to Israel’s affirmative vote in the UN last Tuesday to declare the expulsion of the Republic of China (Taiwan) delegation an “important question. Japan supported the “important question” resolution.
Continuing his letter to Tekoah, Aichi wrote: “This, I know, has been a most difficult period of decision for many of us and your support during these trying days was a true mark of friendship.” The Japanese envoy added that he and his delegation “look forward to continued close cooperation between our two delegations in our common efforts to achieve the noble ideals enshrined in the United Nations Charter.
