A delegation representing victims of Nazi persecution today lodged a formal protest with the German Embassy in Washington against pending amendments that would establish a discrimination in German indemnification laws against claimants from former Nazi-occupied countries and satellites.
The delegation, led by Kurt Grossman, presented a memorandum to Albrecht von Kessel, German Charge d’Affaires here, It said that the amendments would deny or greatly restrict compensation to more than 100,000 victims of the Nazis. The amendments have already been approved by the German Cabinet and are awaiting action by Parliament. They are supposed to correct inequities in the Federal Indemnification Law which has been severely criticized in Germany and abroad since its adoption in 1953.
The delegation also visited the chief of the German Office of the State Department. Members of the delegation included Dr. Kurt Wile, of the Committee of Jews from Czechoslovakia; Dr. Julius Curtis. of the Club of Polish Jews; Dr. Izac Glicksman, president of the United Rumanian Jews of America and Dr. Andrew Freeman, of the World Federation of Jews of Hungarian Descent.
