A Jewish leader warned Congress today against proposed amendments to the Constitution that would create a kind of “super-voter” in state elections. Howard M. Squadron of New York, testifying for 38 member agencies of the National Community Relations Advisory Committee, told a subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee that proposals to permit apportionment of one house of a state legislature without regard to population would offer a “clear invitation to engage in the most blatant kind of discrimination.”
Mr. Squadron testified in behalf of the American Jewish Congress; B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation League; Jewish Labor Committee; Jewish War Veterans of the U. S. A.; National Council of Jewish Women; Union of American Hebrew Congregations; Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America; United Synagogue of America; and 30 local Jewish community relations agencies across the country. All are member agencies of the National Community Relations Advisory Council.
