Various Jewish groups are prepared to provide a $1,000,000 bond if the over 900 refugees in Fort Oswego are released and allowed to proceed to Canada from where they could legally re-enter this country, Rep. Samuel Dickstein said yesterday, revealing that he had sent a telegram to President Truman urging him to provide “a permanent refuge for the few hundred here.”
Rep. Dickstein said that a sub-committee of the House Committee on Immigration and Naturalization, which he heads, found during a hearing at the camp last Summer that under the existing law, means can be found to allow the Fort Ontario residents to enter under existing immigration quotas.
