Two Jewish organizations supported and one expressed reservations about President Johnson’s aid to education proposal in testimony today before the Senate Education Subcommittee.
Moses I. Feuerstein, president of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, endorsed the pending legislation. Amos Bunim, chairman of the executive committee of Torah Umesorah, the National Society for Hebrew Day Schools, said that his organization “finds itself in most specific accord with the President’s program.”
Rabbi Richard G. Hirsch, of the Commission on Social Action of American Reform Judaism, called for amendment of the pending legislation to protect the principle of separation of church and state.
