Jewish policemen and other employees of the Police Department here last night pledged to contribute $10,000 to the United Jewish Appeal of New York. A check for the first $5,000 was presented to the U.J.A. by Police Commissioner Arthur W. Wallander.

James G. McDonald, U.S, representative to Israel, addressing a U.J.A. dinner Last night, expressed confidence that the state of Israel will emerge strengthened from the present struggle. He spoke before 1,000 guests attending a testimonial dinner for Louis B. Mayer, a leading figure in the motion picture industry.
