A widely-based Jewish committee to keep a close watch on the activities of Fascist Minded immigrant groups in Canada will be set up shortly, it was decided at a meeting in Toronto of the Central Region Joint Public Relations Committee of the Canadian Jewish Congress and British, it was reported here by the CJC. The new group will include representatives of the British and the Congress, as well as representatives of other Jewish groups.

The decision to establish such a unit was taken after it was reported that a wreath had been placed at Toronto’s City Hall in honor of Josef Tiso, head of the Nazi puppet state of Slovakia, who was responsible for the deportation and murder of tens of thousands of Slovakian Jews during the Nazi occupation. Other pro-Fascist activities have been reported among recent Rumanian immigrants.

In this city, several Ukrainian groups, including a veterans organization, recently held a public memorial service for Simon Petlura, Ukrainian nationalist general responsible for the massacre of tens of thousands of Jews in the Ukraine in 1918-20. Two years ago a similar public meeting was held in Toronto.
