The Union of Italian Jewish Communities has announced a competition for Italian Jewish architects and sculptors for the design of a memorial to the Italian vessels “Fede” and “Fenice” which sailed out of the Italian port of La Spezia with thousands of visa less Jewish immigrants bound for Palestine when that country was under British administration. The city of La Spezia has set aside a portion of land for the site of the memorial.
