A decision to have every member of the Junior Hadassah learn 1,000 words of Hebrew by the end of 1955 was adopted here today at the 31st annual national convention of the organization. This intensive program in Hebrew education will be one of the organization’s major projects next year.
Opportunities for work and study in Israel under the Israel Institute scholarship plan were outlined by Akiva Skidell, director of the Jewish Agency’s youth department. Among the other principal speakers at the parley were Miss Esther Herlitz, newly appointed consul at the Israel consulate general in New York, and I. L. Kenen, executive director of the American Zionist Committee for Public Affairs.
The organization’s annual award was presented to Mme. Olga Koussevitzky, widow of the noted conductor Serge Koussevitzky and honorary co-chairman of “Music for Israel,” for her efforts in behalf of that program which has provided instruments and musical education for children in Israel.
